Introduction of Car Parking Charges
The following press release from the Cotswold Hub Ltd and Cleeve Common Trust was issued on 11 July 2023:
Parking on the Cleeve Hill Golf Club Site
Cleeve Hill Golf Club is working with a parking management company called Parkingeye Ltd to provide a parking solution as part of its programme to develop the club house site. A fixed car parking tariff of £2 per 24-hour period will be introduced from 24 July.
The Cleeve Hill Golf Club site has always been a popular destination, not only for golfers but many other users of Cleeve Common. However, since the course was saved in early 2021, it has seen an influx of visitors which has placed increasing pressure on the existing car park and facilities. This has resulted in members of the Club and patrons of the café and restaurant facing increasing difficulty in finding parking spaces.
Cotswold Hub Ltd, who own the golf club business, have therefore decided to manage use of the car park by introducing a small parking charge using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. All customers of Cotswold Hub Ltd, including the Cotswold Café, Flynn’s on the Hill Restaurant and Cleeve Hill Golf Club can park for free as long as a purchase of at least £2 is made on the day of visit.
Sam Foyle of Cotswold Hub Ltd commented: “We are committed to providing a positive experience to all users of Cleeve Hill, which includes the provision of appropriate facilities. As part of the redevelopment plan, we have considered all options and although challenging we see this solution as a necessary step to ensure our customers can get suitable access to the site “.
The fixed car parking tariff of £2 will be introduced on Monday 24 July. This will apply 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Quarry Car Park on Cleeve Common
As Quarry Car Park shares an access route with the Golf Club, Cleeve Common Trust, who manage that car park, have taken the decision to implement the same fixed car parking tariff and terms and conditions there too.
Philip Robson, Chairman of Cleeve Common Trust, explains: “The Quarry Car Park is much smaller than the Golf Club’s car park, and the narrow access route already causes congestion on busy days. This would worsen if it remained free to visitors, risking the entrance and single-track access lane becoming gridlocked, with vehicles thus posing a danger to pedestrians using the same entrance. Hence, we have taken the decision to introduce the same parking charges as the Cotswold Hub.”
Other Parking Sites on or near Cleeve Common
All other car parking areas on or near Cleeve Common will remain free and there are no plans to introduce parking charges at these locations.
Cleeve Common Trust Membersship
Cleeve Common Trust are introducing a membership scheme for people who visit the Common regularly to enjoy its space and tranquillity and would like to contribute to its maintenance. A benefit of membership will be the ability to park in Quarry Car Park for free.
Philip Robson adds: “We know that many people visit Cleeve Common very regularly. Although £2 to park for the day is very reasonable for occasional visits, it could be prohibitive for our regulars. So, they can become members of the Trust for an annual fee of £40, which will cover all their parking. We really hope that this will help.”
People will be able to become a member by completing a form on the Cleeve Common Trust website. Membership includes parking for a 12 month period for up to two vehicles at the same registered address, as well as other benefits. There is also a concessionary rate for anyone who is currently receiving Universal Credit or Pension Credit.
