2022 Cleeve Common Bird Survey results
Our annual bird report, written by surveyor and local expert Arthur Ball is now available here
Highlight include:
Ring Ouzels and Wheatears passed through in March, and 16 were reported on the 15th of April.
The following day, two Dotterels were in full view from the Aerials car park for a couple of hours.
Whitethroats appear to have had a good year after several years of decline.
Redstarts bred again along the wall below the aerial site.
A Spotted Flycatcher was on the wall near Dry Bottom in August. This was the first record on the Common.
In September three Dotterels had the local Twitchers excited. They proved to be a problem for the golfers as the birds were on the 13th golf fairway!
Corn Buntings had another good year and were always found singing from bushes on the boundary wall along West Down, under the power cables.
Stonechat had been fairly scarce throughout the year but amazingly, Tom Mabbet reported a huge passage of Stonechats on the 29th of October. He found 42 in the Heather Enclosure!
